With the past week behind us, we take a look at player and personnel moves within the league. This week the Lakers recruit a Canadian and a pair of defensemen leave the league.
Halbgewachs
The Växjö Lakers continue to bolster their lineup in anticipation of puck drop on the new season. This week saw them recruit former junior All Star Jayden Halbgewachs. The 25 year old Canadian forward had a stellar junior career with the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL and has played the past four seasons in the AHL with San José's affiliate. He also appeared in three games with the Sharks last season.
– With Kalle Kossila away longer than we had expected, we have looked a little extra at the market for forwards. Jayden is a very exciting player, his potential as a goalscorer is sky high. His 70 goals in the WHL is the best record of the 2000s. He has the size against him and that type of player usually fits quite well in Europe, says Växjö's sporting director Henrik Evertsson.
Halbgewachs accolades in the WHL include two All Star team appearences, most goals (70) and the Bobby Clarke Trophy for most points (129) in 2018. His contract is valid for the upcoming season.
Ljungman
Rögle has loaned one of their junior players to Kristianstad in HockeyAllsvenskan this week. Daniel Ljungman was signed by Rögle this off season after playing for Linköping, both in their junior program and on the big team, for the past several years. The 20 year old forward played 27 games with LHC last season and also played in HockeyAllsvenksan with Södertälje last season. Ljugman was also a late round draft pick by the Dallas Stars in 2020.
– We see this as a good opportunity for Daniel to get a lot of ice time and get a role high up in Kristianstad's lineup. We look forward to seeing his development and what he can bring to us in the future, says Rögle's assistant sports manager Hampus Sjöström
Rögle reserves the right to recall Ljungman at any time.
A Pair of Departures
The SHL lost two recognizable defenseman this week as both Stefan Elliot and Anton Myllari with be departing Swedens top league. Unlike Myllari, however, Elliott will be staying in Sweden as he joins Djurgården for their season in HockeyAllsvenskan. Elliott has spent the past two seasons with Frölunda racking up 33 points (13G 20A) in 92 games played. He also played for HV71 during the 17/18 season.
Myllari will be heading across the Baltic to join the Pelicans in the Finnish league. Other than a brief stint in Denmark and Austria Myllari has spent his entire career in Sweden. He has 187 games played in the SHL with Malmö, Linköping, Djurgården and Brynäs. He also spent seven seasons in HockeyAllsvenskan.
