Weekly Recap: Puck drop and a retired jersey

With the past week behind us, we take a look at player and personnel moves within the league. This week features a a young prospect making a lateral move and a jersey is retired in Skellefteå


Strömgren

19 year old William Strömgren has swapped teams this week as the left winger has signed a two year deal with Brynäs. Strögren appeared in a handful of games for Rögles big team last year but spent most of season with their J20 team where he appeared in 44 games.

– William was one of the most exciting players in the HockeyAllsvenskan and scored the most points of all the J18 players there. At times he was actually dominant. We were already interested before last year and when the chance now appeared, we wanted to take it, says Brynäs sporting director Johan Alcén.

Strömgren was also drafted 45th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2021 NHL entry draft.

Ericsson

Long time Skellefteå Captain Jimmie Ericsson was honoured on saturday night as Skellefteå retired his number and Ericsson became the first player in club history to be bestowed such an honour.

– This is the biggest club in my heart, said Jimmie Ericsson during his acceptance speech

His long SHL career spanned 13 seasons and a total of 558 regular season games and 149 payoff games, all but one season was spent with Skellefteå. He also played 126 games with Skellefteå in HockeyAllsvenskan, helping them get promoted back in 2005. His career highlights include two Swedish Championships, six Swedish final appearences, a World Championship with Sweden in 2013 and he won the KHL's Gargarin Cup in 2015.

Puck Drop!

The new season is upon us as the first games of the 2022/23 campaign were played on saturday afternoon and evening infront of packed arenas and the fans were not left dissapointed as four of the seven games were decided either in overtime or in a shootout.

Oskarshamn, Timrå, Rögle, Luleå, Färjestad, Örebro and Malmö all won their debut matches.
