Eleven different countries are represented in the SHL, most of the players are naturally Swedish, and those are the ones that, as a nation, leads the scoring league.
Looking at the scoring league of the SHL, there'll be players of many differnt nationalities. But what would the scoring league look like if the players where grouped by their country?
The number of players from different countries differ a lot in the SHL. Hence, comparing the point production for different naionalities proves a bit difficult. In this comparison the top five scorers of each country have been used, the number of points of those five have been summed up.
Only seven of the eleven different countries represented in the SHL have five players of more, and those are the ones included in this report.
Sweden wins the point league by quite a large margin. The top five Swedish players have scored 20 points more than the second best nationality, USA.
The top five Swedish scorers in the SHL have also scored the most goals and is on top of the assist league.
Libor Hudacek carries his country, Slovakia, on his shoulders. The Örebro forward scored 22 of the 37 Slovakian points so far. Also, Hudacek's compatriots Tomas Zaborsky of Brynäs has been out with injury for quite some time, and Martin Fehervary of Malmö, doesn't get that much playing time, explaining the low rank of the Slovak players.
Denmark is in a similar situation, Jesper Jensen of Brynäs has most of the Danish points so far.
Unexpected names
On an individual level, there are a few surprising names on the lists. Players like Olli Palola, Ilari Filppula and Tuomas Kiiskinen are expected to be top Finnish scorers, but Linköping's Niklas Fogström has a surprising top five place.
On a similar note, Cade Fairchild, of Rögle also surprises with his top five place on the US-scoring league, along with players like Broc Little, Bryan Lerg, Garret Roe and Greg Squires.
The fact that Leksand's Eric Castonguay is one of the top five Canadian scorers is also a bit surprising, considering that Canadian players are often signed to be top scorers. Castonguay is one of his country's least experienced players, but gets the fifth place after Daniel Paille, Kevin Clark, Nick Johnson and Andrew Gordon.
A defenseman leads the Norwegian top five scoring league. Jonas Holös, of Färjestad is also accompanied by team mate Ole-Kristian Tollefsen on Norways top five.
